Recently I went on a Hockey Sisters Getaway.
This is when me and my mombesties take our daughters to the city for a couple of nights – as a way to honour them and focus in on them after another season of sitting in rinks and constant travelling for their sibling’s hockey.
We did Fun Girl Things: shopping, DIY gel nails, tacos, swimming, belting out Whitney Houston and the Chicks, and eating chicken and cheese while sitting cross-legged on a hotel room floor.
I also left it with these colour changing nails that satisfied the void of 13 year old me’s underwhelming experience of mood rings. (Yes, I sent this photo montage to my little sister).

While on the getaway, I had bought some summer shirts and a pair of soft and flowy summer pants.
Then I came home and found myself deciding that all my current clothes are stupid and ‘not me’ and I need new clothes for summer.

Really, the scarcity thoughts should have signalled to me that I need to step back (and check what day I am at in my cycle π ) . . . but instead….
I found myself scrolling FB recommendation groups, filling online carts then leaving them, and watching stylists on instagram tell me how I ought to dress this summer in order to be ‘on trend’ π
That was for sure a sign to me that I was in scarcity mode when it was coming to my clothes.

I know, from years of this, that I needed to go SHOP MY CLOSET.
I did that last night while making space for the summer shorts:
-
I pulled out the ‘get rid of pile’
- I keep in my closet and reviewed things once more. I brought a few items back in that I really want to make work. It feels like new clothes, which is a funny mental trick
-
I decluttered some of my summer tanks and shorts that I never feel comfortable in.
- Getting rid of them feels freeing cause I relieve myself of the pressure of trying to make them work – the more ‘meh and maybes’ you take out of the your closet, the more you refine the contents of your closet to be full of things that are ‘YESes and LOVEs’ #curation
-
I also got reacquainted with some shorts that I really do love the look of.
- I now feel no need to go and buy new shorts for this season, what I have works fine for me
-
I tried on almost every dress I have and got rid of a handful of them.
- I decided I will have a week where I challenge myself to wear a dress every day, like I always *say I want to do*
I seem to need this reminder every summer and winter.
I have so much, I just need to make more use of it.
This is something I’ve learned every time I do the moms30for30 (wearing 30 items of clothes for 30 days).
π I am going to challenge myself to NOT SHOP and instead wear MORE of my clothes this summer, keep editing out things that don’t work for me, and keep trying new combinations (shopping my own closet).
I wanted to share this with you because, if you are like me, it can be easy to fall into the comparison trap and feel the need to rehaul the wardrobe without first appreciating the things you DO have and DO like!
